And Collette has been sharing Italy's rich culture since 1989, with tours designed and led by experts who call these places home – so you'll go far beyond the guidebook, experiencing the iconic sights with chances to uncover your own personal connection to the region along the way.
Fourteen unique tours accross Italy feature inclusive itineraries rich culinary experiences, unique cultural inclusions, and truly thoughtful engagements with the local community.
Get Closer to Culture
Curious travellers aren't content to simply see a destination. That's why Collette designs tours that fully engage all your senses, leaving you with a deeper sense of connection to the world around you.
You won't just eat pasta – you'll learn to prepare your own and pair it with different vintages during lunch at a Tuscan winery. You won't just see Mount Etna – you'll explore it on a 4x4 off-roading adventure.
Immerse yourself in Italy with Collette taking care of all the details.
Rich Culinary Experiences
“A tavola non si invecchia.” This Italian phrase translates to: “You don’t grow old at the table.” It acknowledges that time seems to stand still at a table full of good food and great company.
In Italy, food isn’t just nourishment – it’s a way of life. A meal is meant to be an experience, and Collette travellers savour these bites of local culture.
Unique Accommodation
In Italy, they say “paese che vai, usanza che travi,” which translates roughly to: “country you go to, customs you’ll find.” In other words, when in Rome, do as the Romans do!
There’s a different way of doing things in every village across Italy. Collette tours highlight interesting overnights to help share each region’s unique history. Because where you rest your head at night can be a dreamy part of your travel story, too.
Central Italy
Home to some of the world’s most treasured historic sites, but there’s much more to this region than ruins. Outside of cities like Rome and Florence, travellers love Umbrian hill towns like Spoleto and Assisi, and Tuscany’s Pienza, with its cypress trees, country roads, and green hills. If you want to beat the crowds, off season is best, with our favourite month being November, when it’s still relatively warm and harvest season means fresh olive oil abounds.
Italy's Isles
Visit Sicily just about any time of the year, and you’ll see why it has its own distinct identity from mainland Italy. Experience rich culture in gritty Palermo, ancient ruins in historic Agrigento, the geological wonders of Mt. Etna, and an off-the-beaten-path getaway on the isle of Salina. Expect hot, dry summers and relatively mild winters in both Sicily and the neighbouring island nation of Malta, with shoulder seasons being a nice balance of comfortable temperatures and fewer crowds.
Northern Italy
From the ultra-chic streets of Venice and Turin to lesser-known locales like Treviso and Bassano del Grappa, Northern Italy has a distinct culture all its own. Expect fewer crowds and mild weather during the off season (November through March), great skiing during the chilly Alpine winters, and beautiful, not-too-hot summers in seaside villages like Cinque Terre.
Southern Italy
If the idea of hot, sultry, Mediterranean summers and mild, less-crowded winters appeals to you, Southern Italy offers no shortage of sun-drenched whitewashed hill towns (Puglia) and charming coastal villages (Amalfi Coast) in which to enjoy pretty much any season. Hot spots like Naples and Sorrento are popular for a reason, but don’t sleep on hidden gems like Matera, Ostuni, and Lecce.
