The first stage of this journey through Central America is from Panama City (with a visit to Panama Canal) into Costa Rica for visits to the capital, San Juan, the former capital Cartago, the volcanos of Irazu and Arenal and the Tortuguero National Park.
In Nicaragua, stay at the colonial city of Granada for a boat ride on Lake Nicaragua and the capital, Managua.
In Guatemala, stay at the old capital, Antigua, Lake Atitlan and Chichicastenango, with its famous weekly market.
Following a side trip into Honduras for a visit to the great Mayan city of Copan, follow La Ruta Maya to Tikal before flying to Cancun on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula for a visit to Chichen Itza.
From Cancun, fly to Cuba for a comprehensive journey across the Caribbean’s largest island.
The homeward journey is broken with a 3-day stopover in Mexico City.
