Discover the magic of the Kimberley

An exploration voyage to the Kimberley has so many highlights it's hard to know where to begin. Your expedition cruise commences from either Darwin - the capital city of the Northern Territory, or Broome, famous for its beauty and cultured pearls. Both are unique frontier towns and are the gateways to the magnificent Kimberley wilderness.

Coral Expeditions' Cape York and Arnhem Land expedition is a magnificent exploration of the unique and remote Northern Australian coastline. Your expedition voyage begins from either Cairns - the gateway to the World Heritage-listed Great Barrier Reef, Cape York Peninsula and the fascinating islands of Torres Strait, or Darwin - gateway to the remote and mysterious Arnhem Land and the famous national parks of Kakadu and Cobourg Peninsula, areas affectionately known as the 'Top End'.

Coral Princess Oceanic Discovere

You access the Kimberley and Northern Australian coast, some of the world's most remote areas, aboard the purpose-built expedition vessels, Coral Princess (above left) or Oceanic Discoverer (above right). Shallow draught and manoeuvrability make these small-ships ideal to safely navigate the mighty rivers and scenic inlets of these regions. Both vessels offer facilities you would expect of larger ships, with cocktail bars, sundeck, resource library, lecture lounge, telephone/ fax, wireless internet access and more.

Accommodation offers a choice of room grades and bedding configuration, all air- conditioned with en suites. Excursions are aboard the specially designed excursion vessel 'Xplorer' and a fleet of zodiacs. The unique hydraulic platform at the stern of both ships allows absolute ease of access for all guests embarking from the Main Deck.

Explore the gorges of the Mitchell, King George, Prince Regent and Hunter rivers in the Kimberley, or navigate through mysterious Arnhem Land and remote rivers of Northern Queensland on the Cape York and Arnhem Land expedition. Experienced, highly informative Expedition Leaders and Guest Lecturers will supervise your expedition itinerary, maximising the experiences offered on excursions ashore.

Sensitive arrangements are also made allowing you to absorb the cultural remnants of one of the world's most ancient people, the Australian Aborigine. All Coral Princess cruises are personally enriching, intellectually stimulating, and on completion, guests feel a sense of privilege at having widened their horizons while learning some of the planet's intimate secrets, which will remain embedded in the memory for a lifetime. Once discovered never forgotten.

Kimberley Cruise map

The Kimberley - 10 night Expedition Cruise

The region known simply as The Kimberley takes its evocative name from its most imposing landmark; an ancient mountain range visible from the rugged sea coast. Covering more than 400,000 square kilometres (an area three times larger than England) in North West Australia, yet home to just 30,000 people, it is a place universally acknowledged as one of the world's last - and possibly most beautiful wilderness areas.

The Kimberley yields images to fill the frames of a lifetime. It is a place of magnificent vistas created by towering rock ridges, silent secluded gorges, wide savannah plains and plunging waterfalls which defy both nature and belief. This is a land steeped in ancient Aboriginal culture and the legends of our pioneering past.

Travel ashore to view the world's oldest known indigenous art, the mysterious Bradshaw (Gwion) Paintings and soak up the history of early explorers such as Phillip Parker King who first charted this spectacular coastline almost 200 years ago. Experience the heartland of Australia's northernmost unspoilt outback. The Kimberley is a completely unique experience.
