If you’re a Geckos traveller you’re probably a pretty interesting person. You might have travelled a bit before, but you’ve done the math and know it’s better (and often cheaper) to travel in a small group. Our average group has 9 people, (maybe a few more in East Africa) and most of our travellers are aged in their 20s and 30s. So if you’ve got an open mind, a sense of adventure and are willing to step outside the comfort zone then you’ll fit right in.
When it comes to travel, we don’t mess around. You’ll snack on interesting grub, clamber aboard public transport, sleep in family run “hotels” and experience homestays with folks from all walks of life (the Uros Indians make surprisingly good hosts).
You’ll visit all the must-see sites, such as Machu Picchu and the Niagara Falls, but you’ll also uncover some hidden gems. We’ll mix it up with experiences that you won’t find in any guidebook and you’ll have enough free time to make your own discoveries. What’s not to like? So grab a handful of deep fried grasshoppers, flag down a chicken bus, take a left at the sloths, a right on the Inca Trail, navigate the Grand Canyon, head straight through the spray of the Garganta del Diablo at Iguazu Falls and put your foot down in the Amazon Jungle (don’t forget to hold on).
As they say, time flies when you’re chewing coca leaves. If you arrive somewhere familiar, you’ve taken a wrong turn.
That’s it. That’s Geckos. Run Wild.
Gecko's adventures are about getting to the heart and soul of the country. Many are designed for younger travellers and it can be all go or easy going! The most important thing is that you have an open mind, a sense of adventure and an easy-going attitude.
The trips are packed with highlights, so you see as much as possible – but Gecko's is great at leaving plenty of time for you to chill out and watch the world go by.
Most Gecko's travellers consider themselves independent travellers, rather than typical group travellers; Gecko's is not a typical group tour organisation – freedom and flexibility are fundamental.Groups are usually made up of about nine travellers, with a maximum of 16. You'll find sharing your adventure is part of the fun, which is especially good news for single travellers who are bound to make new friends.
Support and respect for local people and the environment is at the heart of all Gecko's trips. Not only is 'going local' the best way for you to have a real travel experience, but also working with local people and supporting their businesses means that the economic benefit remains with these communities.
Gecko's is known for having the best leaders combined with great itineraries to offer you the ingredients for an awesome experience.
Fundamental to a Gecko's experience is local knowledge and interaction, giving you real insight into life on the ground - the perfect approach for many travellers who are after simple, but clean and comfortable accommodation, basic transport, remote places, street food and local cultures. It's an intrepid traveller's dream; all the independence you want, with all the support of an experienced, well-networked organisation such as Gecko's.
If you wish to have your own private Gecko's adventure with your family, friends, school group or club, with your own private tour leader, Gecko's has a team of people dedicated to this. You can either choose one of the itineraries listed in our brochure, or modify it to suit your needs.
With a combination of over 30 years' experience in the travel industry, Gecko's includes as much as possible - and there are no hidden costs; everything can be paid for up-front.
A Gecko's itinerary makes sure you visit the 'must see' sights plus gives you plenty of free time to do your own thing. All the flexibility, none of the rigidity, all of the support!
