This small-group, escorted, "off-the-beaten track" tour for discriminating travellers will take you on a magnificent historical journey through Italy, Albania, Macedonia, Greece and Turkey, whilst staying en route at the very best available hotels.
The Roman Road Via Egnatia was built in the 3rd century BC (under consul Egnatius) as an extension of the Via Appia to provide a link between the western and eastern parts of the Roman Empire. It runs through the Balkans from Durrës in Albania, through Macedonia and Northern Greece to Constantinople (modern-day Istanbul) in Turkey.
Following a 2-night stay in Rome, you'll follow the Via Appia through Benevento to Brindisi, where you'll take a ferry across the Adriatic Sea to the Albanian port of Vlora.
Follow the Via Egnatia from Durrës through Elbasani, Lake Ohrid, Bitola, Edessa, Alexander the Great's birthplace at Pella, Thessaloniki, Philippi, Alexandroupolis and Edirne to Istanbul where you'll spend the final two nights of the tour.
