Your journey starts in Addis Ababa with a 6-day tour of Ethiopia’s famed “Historic Route” visiting the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela, the former capital, Gondar, and a boat ride across Lake Tana, the source of the Blue Nile.
From Harar (with its unusual “Hyena Man”)cross the border into Somaliland, a self-proclaimed autonomous region of Somalia with its own government and several tourist attractions including the remarkable 4,000-year-old cave paintings of Las Gaal.
The tour continues through the former French colony of Djibouti to Eritrea with its Italianate capital of Asmara and Red Sea port of Massawa and finally Sudan, with visits to Khartoum, Port Sudan, Suakin Island, and the Meroe Pyramids.
