The Fiji Islands lie about 4 hours flight north east of eastern Australia and are formed by a group of over 300 islands of which a population of over 750,000 inhabit some 100. Most of the population lives on the two main islands of Viti Levu (home of Fiji's capital, Suva and main gateway, Nadi airport) and Vanua Levu.

The majority of the population is made up of native Melanesian Fijians and Indians descended from the indentured labourers who settled in Fiji in the late 1800's.
