WILDLIFE

Get close and personal to Tasmania’s unique wildlife, with the opportunity to pat a koala, or watch the Tassie Devils have a feed. At Beauty Point on the wharf of the Tamar River, view thousands of baby sea horses or the nocturnal habits of Australia’s favourite monotremes, the platypus.

NATURAL PURSUITS – FRANKLIN GORDON RIVER & ARTHUR RIVER, EDGE OF THE WORLD

Whether it’s bushwalking, painting, or photography, our itineraries cater for all tastes. Stay in luxury at World Heritage Cradle Mountain and walk around Dove Lake. Visit Lake St Clair. Walk the magnificent Tahune Airwalk overlooking one of Australia’s pristine wilderness areas. Cruise the Franklin Gordon River and the Arthur River. Visit Mount Field National Park, including Russell Falls.

ARTS & HERITAGE

From Port Arthur to historic Hobart, Woolmers Estate and the Midlands region, Richmond Bridge and the Buckland Church with its 16th century window and the Grubb Shaft Museum at the Beaconsfield Mine where miners Todd Russell and Grant Webb were trapped for a fortnight in 2006, Tasmania has a rich heritage. Step back in time in one of the most picturesque parts of our country. This rich heritage and the beautiful and varied landscapes, the space and isolation of the wilderness areas combine to inspire some of our finest artisans to create amazing arts and crafts. With the largest privately owned gallery in Australia, the MONA (Museum of Old and New Art) is just one of a number of new galleries. Let your senses be overwhelmed by the beauty of Tasmania.

FRANKLIN RIVER CRUISE

All tours to Strahan include this spectacular ride across Macquarie Harbour to the mouth of the sea, then onto Heritage Landing to experience standing amongst the 1000 year old Huon Pine and King Billy. Enjoy a Buffet Lunch on board including Tasmanian smoked salmon and Tassie Brie.

WEST COAST WILDERNESS RAILWAY

Take a ride on this world heritage rack railway specially designed to carry ore between Strahan and Queenstown. The engine and carriages have been refurbished with comfortable seats and large panoramic windows to really experience the wilderness.

EDGE OF THE WORLD & ARTHUR RIVER CRUISE

Explore the “Edge of the World” on an Arthur River cruise to experience the pristine Tarkine wilderness area of northwest Tasmania, where some say the Tasmanian tiger still roams!

MORE INDULGENCE

Start with an east coast crayfish, then follow it with some King Island Beef. Dessert might be a vanilla slice from Ouse or a strudel from Somerset. Wash it down with some Taymar Valley or Richmond Valley wine, or a beer from Boags and Cascade Breweries. Enjoy a cheese platter with some of the world’s most famous cheeses from Pyengana, or Lactos at Burnie, or of course, King Island Dairy. After dinner, some coffee with chocolates from Cadburys, or Belgian style truffles from Anvers, and perhaps a wee dram of whiskey from Hellyers. Indulge yourself with the rich diversity of food at Salamanca Markets, Tassie has something to suit everyone’s palate.
