Your Swiss Alpine Railway Adventure

Scott McGregor

Astounding train travel on the alpine railways of Switzerland

19 days: 25 April – 13 May 2017s

Switzerland's vertical landscape has long attracted romantics and travellers. The railway revolution of the nineteenth century saw little trains dramatically ascend the highest peaks by ingenious and inventive methods of engineering, and made some of Europe's most spectacular scenery accessible to all. At the time it was the talk of the town and it still is!

Train travel is central to Swiss life, reaching into every corner of the land and beyond. It is also one of the most efficient, and easily the most patronised rail network per head of population in the world. There can be no better way to get a window on this spectacular country.

Using the extraordinary network of Swiss Rail and comfortable hotels located close to stations and town centres, this finely-tuned adventure will take you through the heart of the Alps to explore a wonderful mix of the country's key historical, cultural and scenic destinations. Traverse the spectacular Alps and breathtaking snaking valleys on some of Europe's most famous trains including The Glacier and Bernina Expresses. Stay in classic cities and visit magical museums. Option to connect onto Scott's Italian Railway Odyssey tour.

Chris Harding

Chris Harding retired recently as the manager of the Railway Bookshop at Sydney's Central Station. He also spent many years with the steam operating company, 3801 Limited, and conducted tours of Sydney's disused tunnels for the Australian Railway Historical Society. He is often called upon to talk about railway history on local radio. His early career with the Bank of New South Wales/Westpac Bank gave him the desire and opportunity to travel. Chris' interest in Swiss narrow gauge railways began with his first trip there in 1974 and has grown ever since.

Scott McGregor has been involved in the media for over 30 years as an actor, presenter, writer and producer. Graduating from NIDA in 1979, he appeared in a wide range of stage, film and TV roles and has presented and hosted numerous prime-time ratings winners including two series of his own Railway Adventures. He is currently working on his third book, Railway Revolutions, and operates 'Ruwenzori' - his Orient Express style tourist retreat near Mudgee, NSW. His travel company, Railway Adventures, is an extension of many years of leading memorable railway journeys around the world.
