In South East Asia, Geckos Grassroots Adventures’ many ‘overland’ style trips cover several countries - trips range from 10 to 33 days. The Southern Thailand Adventure is a new and exciting trip - limestone islands, an untouched coastline and village stays are the highlights at the start of the trip, and then there’s time to party, explore and relax on Koh Phangan and Koh Samui.

Other varied itineraries include the ancient Silk Road, the Tibetan plateau, Mongolia, the temples of Burma and Laos, the awe-inspiring ancient city of Angkor in Thailand, orangutans in Malaysia and of course, China - kung fu, the Terracotta Army, the Great Wall, a tea drinking ceremony, karaoke and a cruise. Whichever trip you decide on, one thing is assured... your memories of China will be as rich and as varied as the country itself.

Fundamental to a Geckos experience is local knowledge and interaction, giving you real insight into life on the ground - the perfect approach for many travellers who are after simple, but clean and comfortable accommodation, basic transport, remote places, street food and local cultures. The trips are packed with highlights, so you see as much as possible – but Geckos is great at leaving plenty of time for you to chill out and watch the world go by.

Most Geckos travellers consider themselves independent travellers, rather than typical group travellers; Geckos is not a typical group tour organisation – freedom and flexibility are fundamental.

Groups are usually made up of about nine travellers, the maximum being 16 people in this particular region. You’ll find sharing your adventure is part of the fun, which is especially good news for single travellers who are bound to make new friends.

Support and respect for local people and the environment is at the heart of all Geckos trips.
